Has anyone else noticed that in almost any commercial for any product that features a family or couple, the husband/father/boyfriend is always an incompetent moron who doesn't know as much as the smart wife/girlfriend/kids?

And if so, does it annoy you as much as it's begun to annoy me?

I mean, let's be realistic. Okay, I know commercials are by definition not realistic, since they're just bullshit designed to sell things. But what is the point of always showing men as idiots who are incapable of wiping their own butts without a woman around? Does that really describe the overwhelming majority of American households? And if so, gosh, how did all these flaming dolts even survive bachelorhood?

Well, I suppose it's just because it's politically incorrect to portray anyone else but a straight (and usually white) male in a potentially negative light. Just imagine a commercial where a wife is shown, say, backing the family car into a tree, with the husband rolling his eyes as he talks to his chuckling Friendly Insurance Agent(tm) the next day. Or, well, just any commercial that makes a woman appear as stupid as damn near every commercial makes men appear.

Can't really imagine it, can you? Me neither.
